Hey BK,

Most of us here are adults, some with kids, mortages, and 401K/IRA's already set up. And I would like to know what motivates and drives you to have fun.

One of my personal philosophies (lol nindo) was to be inspirational. But my attitude is becoming more and more lethargic, something fundamentally different from youthful cynicism. So what motivates you to be adventurous, to actually partake in your hobbies and interests?

I never need to be motivated because ADD. I'm sure that sounds flippant but it's the truth for me. I get bored with one thing and i'm on to the next thing.
I have more of a struggle staying motivated on tasks that directly benefit me and my family. I'm going to try adderall soon.
I find myself becoming more ambitious as i get older. "I should write a book". But i'm more bark than bite.
I get a great deal of enjoyment out of watching the growth of my kids and my 401k. They're both of modest size yet but there is measurable progress all the time.

Money.... No really Money motivates me. I'm not poor or in a bad situation but I have expensive hobbies (Shooting, Reloading, gaming) and I can't always get what I want due to some crack ass responsibility bullshit that I somehow picked up. So I start making stuff to get what I want. For example: Me and my wife both like to fish (believe it or not my wife more so than me) and we would both like to have a small boat to fish from. However it is simply not in the budget to buy one. So this summer I will be trying to make a boat (flat bottom 2 person john boat). Should be a fun woodworking project. Have been looking all over online for how to videos and plans with dimensions. So yeah, money motivates me cause I want shit but can't afford it so I say fuck you and make it. Other example would be my love for shooting handguns... Ammo is expensive as fuck, so I started reloading. People think this shit is difficult but it really isn't. if you have any mechanical aptitude you would be surprised what you can accomplish.

"inspirational" to yourself?

my life has undergone a drastic change (long story short baby has gut problems so if i eat something she cant handle she pooped blood, for a few months, we stopped the blood because all i eat is lamb and some veg/fruits. and she should outgrow this, at some point). i cant do many things i use to love like eat out or bake (now once in a while and only for evan) or even cook meals evan and i could both eat (he s still not eating meat). I take joy in things that i do have. i love watching my baby grow and learn (trying to hoard all the cute memories), spending what little time we have together as a family (we r both swamped with work). i m stressed but happy that professionally i've hit a new high  www.bloomberg.com/billionaires/

i have been photographing and sketching more, looking forward to the day when baby and i could both eat everything.

You did the faces for that bloomsberg article? Nice. I read that but it didn't even occur to me to check the artist. High five!

Omg i finally figured out why your food is affecting the baby. Kim wasn't able to do that so both of my kids have been on formula.
Well it isn't really all that long before you can start her on stuff like rice cereal and pureed veggies. Ally still refuses to eat most meat. She will eat steak and hamburger but not chicken or any pork product.

it's called FPIES, she's sensitive to food proteins, no milk no soy (putting her on formula would mean special hypoallergenic stuff) and apparently all grains(also no beans, squashes, asparagus, strawberries, blackberries, and potatoes, sweet potatoes also no go). so far i can't eat any grains including quinoa that doesnt give her poop problems so she def cant eat any cereal. i m starting to give her some fruit, she really cant get a full meal out anything yet. maybe by a year old she can handle more stuff. also cinnamon and cocoa affects her. but she grows fine, a bit on the short side but high in weight and head circumference. she wasnt even colicky, the blood poop freaks us out but she didnt care, barely ever cries.

I got lucky and found a career that has several components I enjoy (academia). Getting to do research, teach, and advise students is good fun. The only unfortunate end of things is that it doesn't leave a ton of room for many outside activities. I try to focus on the hobbies that can overlap with "work" like wine or whiskey tasting. Also, conferences = mostly free traveling!

I personally have the drive to do tons of shit, but just not the time to... So I spend like 1 or 2 hours out of the day to do what I wanna do like draw, make music, read. but it's not even every day.

Lina, your daughter is adorable. I had to get that out of the way first. :D

As far as what motivates me? Gone are the Osaka days of silliness (well, as much anyway). Seriously, what motivates me now is the solid foundation that I am building with my girlfriend and in time, eventually wife. I hurt people that were close to me in the last two years, and seeing what that did to them made me look at emotions as well as just integrity overall different. I see so many beautiful things to come and I feel that I do whatever I can do as a man to hold onto and evolve just that.

For one instance, we now have our own place, whereas before (or at least from what TK, Kalei and Cinna-bon remembers) I lived with roommates. Was awesome in the beginning, but with anything else, you outgrow your surroundings. And I did. Having somewhere to call home with someone that is close knit to me? That fits rather nicely. I've matured from it.

Yeah I relate. My priorities changed even more when I made baby #1. It's strange how different life gets.
