Lotta womens go a little late with the first. Kim did. Let me think if there's anything that might help....
Kim was afraid of the epidural. Later she was sorry she didn't take it sooner. Another girl refused it at first and then wasn't allowed to have it later. She really regretted that.
The weirdest feeling for me was when they gave us the baby and said 'well there you go'. And then Kim and I were walking out of a hospital with this baby that we didn't come in with and we were like 'what now?' We prepared for it but we couldn't understand the change until Ally was sitting in the carseat in the back of our car for the first time.
The first 3 months are pretty bad but the good news is - the baby's cries can almost always be traced back to gas, food, diaper, or sleep. First try food and diaper. Did that work? Oh okay it's gas. You tried burping her already? Well try again. Still didn't work? Keep trying.
Every now and then Ally would get so tired that her tiredness would cause her to scream. I didn't believe it at first but eventually I had to admit it. Being sleepy keeps them awake sometimes. Unbelievable but apparently true.
And then the first time Ally slept through the night Kim and I looked at each other and half-panicked. We were like 'ohmygod did something happen?'
Nope - she slept through the night. Blessed miracle of miracles.
