Some truly new things are coming and some long-awaited sequels. I haven't been this psyched to play games in a few years.

Dragon Age 2 is getting attention in another thread. I'll start there and call it a bullet point.
Crysis 2 has a thread. No replies but I assume it's because you're all too amazed to speak.
Battlefield 3 is also coming and it looks incredible as well.
Then there's Skyrim; Elder Scrolls 5
Last I heard there's still an outside chance we'll see Zelda: Skyward Sword in 2011
And then there's Duke Nukem Forever due in May. No really. For real this time.
Remember - even Chinese Democracy finally got a release.
Portal 2
Mass Effect 3
Forza 4
Guild Wars 2
Diablo 3
And Kid Icarus!

But then there's the new stuff too.
Nintendo has been wowing people with the 3DS. I'm not a huge 3D fan but I have to admit that part of my muted excitement has always been due to the need for glasses. The 3DS changes that - and that's enough to get me interested.
And Rift seems like it might have the goods to challenge WoW. Blasphemy? I'm speaking as an outsider here but it seems to me that the time is ripe for a big shift and the early reviews on Rift are sounding pretty darn good.

The only thing that makes me giddy on that list is Diablo 3, I suppose because everything that blizzard puts out completely stomps everything else. Plus I played D2 for about 6 years on and off.

Have you guys checked out the new MK stuff? It is looking to be glorious... (I hope.)


Also, I'm not sure when it's actually coming out, but Dead Island looks pretty fucking awesome as well. I'm really not sure how I will fit all of these games into my schedule, but....it will happen somehow. Maybe.

Again. An amazing year for videogames. Here's a recap of what's happened so far.

Portal 2 - 95 on metacritic
Arkham City - 96 on metacritic
Mass Effect 2 - 94
Uncharted 3 - 93

Then all of the following are around 90:
Forza 3
Modern Warfare 3
Battlefield 3
Dark Souls

And there tons of good games that I didn't even mention but there are two games that in my humble opinion are the cherry on top.

Skyrim - 11/11/11
And I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea but I've been obsessed.

Zelda - Skyward Sword.
There's an embargo on reviews until Friday but a few magazines have broken it just to be the first to give it a perfect score. I know we all like Zelda games but every review so far has called it the best or a contender for the best Zelda game ever made. With the first 4 reviews in it's got a 98 on metacritic. That would put it in a tie with GTA 4 for the best reviewed video game ever.

Going to throw rift "as was mentioned in OP" a good nod of the head. As someone who played then finally kicked WoW after 5 years then tried rift, it was a decent game. People knocked it's gameplay right out of the gate but these people seem to forget just how god awful WoW was for the first year. SOme time has gone by and they smoothed a lot of stuff out, added a bunch of content and tons of good features. I can see WoW evolving into a hardcore raider/PvP'er only and rift being tons more casual friendly taking up that roll. I've disliked most of trion's games thus far but I do enjoy rift.
